Capcom Cup X is going down early next year, and it is the biggest one yet. A $1,000,000 prize awaits the winner in the largest prize for a fighting game we have ever seen so far. Because of this, qualification is a big deal. However, for Japan, it is particularly important due to the size of the region.
The Japanese Street Fighter scene is considered the best in the world, but they only have two slots. One from their Capcom Pro Tour online premiere, and the other is the winner of the World Warrior event. However, players also have a chance to qualify from four offline events. The first was Evo which was won by Angrybird, and the other three are the Singapore offline, the France offline, and finally, the Last Chance Qualifier.
With the Singapore event taking place this weekend, it presents an unmissable opportunity for Japanese players to stake their claim in Capcom Cup. This has led to a very stacked bracket. According to a popular Twitter account, Shiramizu, which collects information about foreign FGC news to disseminate to Japanese fans, there are 70 Japanese pro players in the Singapore tournament and about 120 big players from around the world. With a total of 370 registrations so far, this means that about 190 players in the tournament are notable names.
Worse still, unlike Evo that had 7000 players which meant that the big players did not have to face each other early, a 370-man bracket compresses things quite a bit. This has led to very difficult pools and Japanese pros are already playfully bemoaning their fate.
Former Capcom Cup winner, Gachikun took to Twitter to complain about his pool which see s him potentially facing Higuchi really early and the winner possible coming up against Chinese superstar, Vxbao to make it out of their pools.
Fuudo also found himself in the same pool as last year's Evo winner, Kawano, which would be a significant challenge.
