Riot Commits to Supporting 2XKO Community Events Through 2027
The game isn't going to go quietly into the night

2XKO might be coming to an end, but Riot Games, the game's developer and publisher, is doing everything it can to make the landing as smooth as possible for fans.

To that end, the company has announced that its Community Events Support program will run until the end of 2027.

The Community Events Support program is a grassroots initiative introduced earlier this year to encourage more participation in the local FGC. Riot does this by partnering with local tournament organizers to enable participants to earn in-game rewards. Players can earn credits, outfits, and player titles depending on their placement in a tournament.

More information is available on the official website, where fans can find FAQs and details about the requirements for receiving these rewards.

The news has been well received, with fans praising the announcement on X. Riot previously disclosed that it would be ending support for 2XKO by the end of 2026, but it remains committed to completing its tournament circuit for the year. The game will also remain accessible for the foreseeable future.

Several factors have been cited as contributing to 2XKO's struggles, including its long production cycle and low player count. In a recent interview with the Lemonade Stand podcast, Marc Merrill, a co-chairman at Riot Games, said that the game needed hundreds of thousands to millions of monthly users to remain viable. Given the niche nature of the FGC relative to the wider gaming sphere, that was a target the game was unlikely to reach.

2XKO may be on its way out, but there are signs that it could become a cult classic that lives on like Killer Instinct and Skullgirls.
