The modern control scheme pioneer joins the roster under a new name as he targets his first Capcom Cup and EWC appearances
Japanese player Yukari, a Blanka specialist who broke out in 2024 with his innovative use of the modern control scheme, has been revealed as the latest signing for RIDDLE Order.
RIDDLE made the announcement on their X account, accompanied by a video showcasing highlights of the player intercut with footage of him posing in his new team jersey. The signing brings with it an immediate and notable change; he will be competing under a new name going forward. Yukari will now be known as Shigematsu.
In a short response to the announcement post, he said: "I've joined RIDDLE ORDER!
"My activity name will change from Yukari to Shigematsu
"Of course, for individual matches, I also hope to be of help to my teammates in SFL!
"I'll do my best!!"
The signing gives Shigematsu something he has not had in abundance so far: the platform and resources to travel and compete in more tournaments. He will be targeting spots at the Esports World Cup and Capcom Cup, two events he has yet to feature in. On the team front, RIDDLE's main SFL roster is already settled, meaning he is unlikely to feature as a starting competitor in the league. His contribution there will more likely come as a sparring partner, helping the team prepare for opponents, though the door is not entirely closed on him playing some role as the season develops.
RIDDLE Order will be making their SFL debut this season, adding another layer of interest to how the team shapes up over the coming months.
Shigematsu has not yet caught the eye of the mainstream, but he has the talent to change that. With more opportunities to showcase what he can do, it would be no surprise to see him become a recognised name in the scene before long.
