UFA 2026 Joins the Capcom Pro Tour as the Circuit's Final Premier Stop
Europe's biggest fighting game tournament completes the road to Capcom Cup 13, but the manner of its addition raises questions

Europe's premier fighting game tournament, Ultimate Fighting Arena 2026, has been added to the Capcom Pro Tour circuit.

When the pro tour was announced, seven premier tournaments were revealed as part of the circuit, with the promise of two more additions at a later date. Following the news that UFA 2026 will go ahead after a period of uncertainty, it has now been added to the CPT circuit as well.

A Quiet But Significant Change

Some of the wording in Capcom's announcement was interesting and pointed toward a change that was not highlighted in their initial CPT season reveal. Their post on X reads: "CPT2026 just got bigger! Ultimate Fighting Arena 2026 joins as a Premier stop, completing the road to Capcom Cup 13." The phrase "completing the road" is the key detail here and suggests that UFA is the final premier being added and that the original plan for a ninth premier has been quietly shelved.

According to the official CPT website, the road to Capcom Cup 13 now shows eight qualifiers from premiers and an identical number from the global leaderboard. That represents two additional spots on the global leaderboard compared to last year's tally, a change that has gone without any official explanation from Capcom.

Possible Reasons For the Change

Capcom has made no statement regarding the reason behind this change, but speculation has centred on the possibility that the final qualifier was intended to be held in China, as was the case last year. That plan now appears to have been abandoned, though the reason remains unconfirmed.

It is worth noting, and this is speculative, that the last several months have seen a significant tightening of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, stemming from Japan's declaration that it may deploy its defence forces if China attacks Taiwan. The strain has spilled into the entertainment industry in tangible ways. A prominent example is Chinese company Hoyoverse being forced to delay the release of a new area for Honkai Star Rail, which was to feature a Japanese-inspired aesthetic and a Japanese-leaning lead character.

Whether that broader climate influenced Capcom's decision is unknown. But it would not be unreasonable to suggest that a Japanese company might think carefully about hosting one of its most prestigious events in China given the current state of relations between the two countries. Until Capcom speaks on the matter, it remains an open question.

What is clear is that the road to Capcom Cup 13 is now set. With UFA confirmed and the circuit complete, the action can now continue in earnest.
