Red Bull Kumite New York: SF6 Season 2 Hint Found in Announcement Text

The Red Bull Kumite New York tournament has been announced and we got a few details thanks to a lovely trailer on the Red Bull X account. 

In the trailer, we got a very comic book aesthetic which is usually the pattern with Red Bull Kumite. We also got confirmation of the first four invitees for the tournament. The four are: last year's winner, Big Bird, Punk, Capcom Cup champion, MenaRD, and Gachikun. This means we can expect 10 more names to join these initial four. 

However, the piece of information that was most interesting to fans was in the announcement text on the Red Bull website which stated that the tournament will feature Street Fighter 6's season 2. This is huge as the event takes place in March and with Capcom Cup in February, it could mean that we will get season 2 of SF6 between the end of February and the middle of March. 

This is much earlier than the June date projected by most fans of the game. It does raise the question of how they plan to release Ed and Akuma who are the last characters for season 1. One option is to release the two together and this would seem like the most likely route to go with. 

The announcement text also clarified that the 'Play-In' tournament will be filled by 8 players who have qualified from World Qualifier tournaments. There have been no such tournament announced yet, but we can expect to learn more about that soon. 

The Red Bull Kumite New York 2024 tournament will hold between the 16th and 17th of March 2024 and can be watched live at twitch.tv/redbull and youtube.com/redbullgaming.
