Punk Put Fighting Games Over School, But Doesn't Advise It
The Evo champion wants people to make better decisions

Fighting games are hard to get good at and even harder to make a living from as only the top 1% end up making it.

Punk, the most recent winner of Evo for Street Fighter 6, is in that 1% and in a recent podcast with Brian_F admitted to dropping out of school to pursue his current career path.

Brian_F, host of The Trash Talk podcast, had Punk on as a guest this past Monday, and the two went over Punk's career from his humble beginnings in Street Fighter IV, to his current designation as the best in the world. Punk intimated that he decided to put his fighting game career first and made the choice to drop out of school.

However, Punk was also very quick to state that it was not a decision that he would advise anyone to make as education is incredibly important. While Punk said that he has no regrets, it is not something he would want others to try out.

While Punk's path to success is possible, it is fraught with dangers and a huge chance of failure. Reacting to the clip, Big Bird, the person Punk was in Grand Finals with, chimed in and said that he ensured he finished with his education before going into fighting games fully.

It is clear that Punk's path worked out for him, but is definitely not an optimal path and most of the responses echoed that as there was comment after comment clearing up the fact that Punk is a generational player and that his means would not work for a vast majority of people who try it.

Beyond this, Punk did speak on other things including his wild beginnings and the idea that he chokes on the big stage which he said he hates hearing as it seems dismissive of his opponents who are also incredible professionals.
