Punk Is Yet to Receive the Evo Trophy

This year's Street Fighter Evo tournament was an emotional moment for many Street Fighter fans, and much of FGC as a whole.

For North America, or United States specifically, it was the first victory in a concurrent Street Fighter game since 2002, when Jason Cole won a Super Street Fighter II Turbo tournament.

It was also an incredibly touching moment for Victor "Punk" Woodley. He's a great player, none can argue that, easily among the top 5 in the world and plenty of medals to prove it. However, things just didn't go his way at Evo, until 2024.

FGC loves a good story, and at Evo 2024, we saw Punk smash two barriers at once, you couldn't ask for a better finale. Sadly, the follow-up to this victory hasn't been quite as heartwarming or exciting.

Almost 4 months later, Punk is yet to receive what might be the significant and sentimental trophy of his career.

Hadou was swift to respond with a reasonable explanation for this whole situation.

It's a good reminder that sometimes, things are just complicated. It might seem like a basic task, how long could it possibly take to engrave a trophy, right? But then you go down the chain and discover a string of people who are doing everything they can, but are limited by the circumstances.

Just like Punk, whoever is handling this situation on Evo's side of things can only wait and relay the information they were given. While the company overshooting their delivery window by a great deal is inexcusable, there's likely a reason for it as well. It can take just one late supply or a contract that fell through to get things out of wack.

That said, let's hope that it won't take too long for Punk to finally get the custom trophy he deserves, because as of right now, it's already taking way longer than it ever should've.
