MenaRD is Evolution Championship 2025 winner for Street Fighter 6.
The only two-time Capcom Cup winner showed why he is, without a doubt, the greatest Street Fighter player of this generation with another Evo win to put on top of his two Evo Japan wins, which happened back-to-back.
He defeated Capcom Cup champion, Kakeru, in dominant fashion, winning 3-0, to take his crown.
The top 8 started with Kakeru up against Fuudo. The Capcom Cup champ hasn't traveled for tournaments much after his big win, preferring instead to stay back in Japan to train and stream. But, for a competition as prestigious as Evo, he made the trip with pride on the line, seeing as he is already qualified for Capcom Cup next year.
Fuudo has been on a tear recently, winning both Topanga League Japan, and Blink Respawn, to remind everyone why he is such a fearsome opponent.
When the two clashed, Fuudo won the first match, using his Ed. Kakeru adapted quickly, taking his first game to equalise. This prompted Fuudo to make a switch to Dee Jay. Whatever he had hoped to acheive with that switch didn't really pan out as Kakeru was able to take two further games to send Fuudo to the losers' bracket.
The next match was between MenaRD and one of Europe's strongest, Phenom. Phenom is one of the most consistent players, but is somewhat underrated because he doesn't always have the titles to show for all his immense talent. Here again, against a force of personality like Mena, he fell short, losing 1-3 to go down to the losers' bracket too.
The first match in the losers' bracket saw EWC winner, Xiao Hai, take on Combo Breaker and CEO winner, LeShar. The two are well known as King of Fighters players, and they offered up an incredible spectacle with the match going back and forth. Ultimately, Xiao Hai was the winner and moved on. The next match featured Evo debutant Micky, and Evo veteran and Evo 2023 winner AngryBird. The match was somewhat anticlimactic, and Micky ran away with the victory, 3-0 to move on in the bracket.
Micky's next test was a lot sterner as he was up against Fuudo, and while he was able to take the victory, it was by no means an easy feat. But, win he did, and moved on to meet Phenom, who defeated Xiao Hai.
The losers' semi-final was a delight with both Phenom and Micky opting for Cammy and playing the character really well. Phenom continually abused the air approach as he noticed that Micky's anti-airs weren't consistent, and he used this to press the advantage. However, Micky's ground game was really solid and he had a knack for pulling out unconventional tools to help deal with the fight. He was able to clutch out the win and move on to losers' final and also claim a spot at Capcom Cup since both MenaRD and Kakeru are already qualified for the tournament.
Winners final saw a familiar sight as Kakeru faced Mena. Before the match, the two faced off like boxers and then got into proceedings. It was a bit of a wash, as Mena steamrolled Kakeru to move on to Grand Finals. Kakeru defeated Micky to get a runback against Mena. Mena was on hand to win again, 3-0, to claim his first Vegas Evo title.
Kakeru seems to have a Mena problem as this makes it 9 games with no response between the two in major offline tournaments. Mena and Kakeru had played in Evo Japan in 2024 and it was the same result. Basically, Mena has gatekept Kakeru from 2 Evos which is sort of incredible.
Kakeru will be disappointed, but will only have to come back stronger next time around.
