No Sneak Patch: Alex Won’t Make Capcom Cup After All
Well, that's disappointing

Alex is set to be the third DLC character released in Season 3 of Street Fighter 6, and he is currently expected to arrive sometime in 2026.

For a brief moment, fans thought he might come earlier. A press release celebrating Street Fighter 6 hitting six million units sold included a small but significant line stating that Alex would launch in winter 2026. That immediately raised eyebrows because earlier communication had clearly stated that Alex would arrive in spring 2026, the same window as Ingrid.

Fighting game YouTuber Rooflemonger even pointed it out in a recent video covering Alex.

Following the confusion, Capcom quickly sent out a correction email confirming that the winter date was a mistake. Alex will indeed release in spring, which places him after Capcom Cup.

Many fans had been hoping Alex would drop before Capcom Cup, which is widely regarded as the end of the annual competitive season. With this clarification, it looks like the SF6 content schedule will mirror last season’s timeline.

This once again highlights the awkward relationship between the game’s competitive season and its DLC release cycle. In Street Fighter V, both schedules lined up neatly. Capcom Cup closed out the competitive year, and the new season patch launched immediately after. Street Fighter 6 has taken a different approach. New competitive seasons begin while the previous patch is still active, and major balance or character updates often land mid-season. Several players have voiced frustration with how disruptive that can be, especially when significant mechanical changes arrive before a tournament run.

Fans are hoping that future updates bring better alignment between the SF6 esports calendar and its DLC schedule, so both sides of the game can operate more smoothly.
