Mortal Kombat film (1995)

Once in a generation, an ancient tournament called "Mortal Kombat" takes place, created by the Old Gods to protect the Earth from the dark forces of the Outworld. If the forces of Evil win the tournament ten times in a row, then the Emperor will be able to launch an invasion of Earth. At the moment, the warriors of Outworld have won nine tournaments in a row and, perhaps, the next one will be the last for Earth. Former Shaolin monk Liu Kang and his reluctant comrades - Hollywood star Johnny Cage and Special Forces agent Sonya Blade - must risk their lives and defeat their unusual opponents to win the tenth Mortal Kombat, otherwise, they will plunge the Earth into eternal darkness.

Although each fighter was chosen to participate in the Mortal Duel, each has their own reason for participating. Liu Kang wants to avenge the death of his brother Chen, who was killed by the villain Shang Tsung in a duel. Sonya Blade is looking for the merciless killer Kano, responsible for the death of her partner. Johnny Cage is competing to prove that he is a true martial artist and not “fake” as the press describes him. Despite their personal goals, they were all recruited and sent to a dock in Hong Kong, from where a strange-looking ship transports them to Shang Tsung Island, where the tournament will take place. While sailing, they encounter two of their possible opponents: the Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero and the ghost ninja Scorpion. Both are under Shang Tsung's mental control. Despite the fact that the tournament has not started yet, Scorpion and Sub-Zero are trying to attack the positive characters. But then Raiden, the god of thunder, intervenes and takes them away from danger, along the way explaining to them what is happening.

Having arrived on the island, the Earth warriors are invited by Shang Tsung to the first round of the competition, which begins the next day. But behind the scenes, Shang Tsung tells Mortal Kombat champion four-armed Goro that the Emperor's adopted daughter, Princess Kitana, may betray them and side with Liu Kang. Outworld warriors win their first duels, while Shang Tsung absorbs the souls of the losers. One of the victims is a friend of the main characters Art Lean, killed by Goro.

After such defeats, the warriors of the Earth are desperate, but Raiden inspires them to fight fearlessly. Johnny Cage, Sonya, and Liu Kang defeat Scorpion, Kano, and Sub-Zero, respectively. Wanting to fight Goro, Johnny Cage makes a deal with Shang Tsung. Before the battle between Johnny Cage and Goro, Shang Tsung states that at any moment he can personally choose any fighter for the final fight with him. As a result, Johnny Cage throws Goro off the cliff, and Shang Tsung kidnaps Sonya, taking her to Outworld, claiming that he has the right to do so. Raiden is unable to go there and explains that Liu Kang and Johnny Cage must follow Shang Tsung without him. If the battle is abandoned, victory will be assigned to the Outworld, and since Sonya cannot defeat Shang Tsung, one of the chosen ones will have to fight him. After Liu Kang's battle with the Reptile in Outworld, they are greeted by Kitana, who tells them the truth about this place and its fate, confirming Shang Tsung's suspicions. Then, in monastic robes, they make their way to the tower where Shang Tsung is keeping Sonya locked up. While Johnny and Kitana free Sonya, Liu Kang summons the sorcerer to Mortal Kombat. The fierce duel ends with Liu Kang's victory as well as the release of all the souls that Shang Tsung has stolen.

Liu Kang and Kitana walk hand in hand back to Earth, along with Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, who also start to like each other. Raiden greets them, congratulating them on saving Earth. But the celebration is interrupted by the arrival of Shao Kahn, threatening the inhabitants of Earth. Raiden and the four fighters are preparing for a new battle.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation

After being defeated in the final tournament of Mortal Kombat, the forces of evil treacherously invade the Earthrealm. Shao Kahn, Emperor of Outworld, violating the sacred rules of the tournament, decides to seize the Earth by force. He opens a portal between worlds, using Queen Sindel as a key to enter. It turned out to be a very interesting excuse to teleport to Earth: since the forces of evil made Sindel their ally, they had to "just take the queen and return to the Outworld."

The evil emperor Shao Kahn illegally opens a portal from Outworld to the Earthrealm and has his queen, Sindel, who is Kitana's long-dead mother. When the portal is opened, the Earth is under the threat of merging with the Outworld. The merge should take place six days after the portal opens. The merger is going to hinder Liu Kang and his comrades. Shao Kahn captures Sonya Blade to force Raiden to acknowledge his right to Earth. In response, Raiden takes Shao Kahn's generals prisoner. Johnny Cage tries to save Sonya, but Shao Kahn grabs him and kills him after that Raiden and his friends have to regroup. Raiden offers them to split up: Sonya, Liu Kang, and Kitana will go to look for allies, and Raiden will go to ask the Old Gods why they allowed Shao Kahn to break the rules of Mortal Kombat.

Kitana and Liu Kang seek out an Indian shaman named Nightwolf, who, as they have been told, knows how to defeat Shao Kahn. They are attacked by the cyborg Smoke. With the help of Sub-Zero, the younger brother of the older Sub-Zero, who was killed by Liu Kang in the competition, they manage to defeat the cyborg, and Sub-Zero explains that the cyborgs (Smoke and Cyrex, see below for the latter) were caught and reprogrammed by Shao Kahn for the search for earthlings instead of him, as his clan desired. Sub-Zero assists both warriors by creating an icy bridge across the gap, but before Kitana and Liu Kang cross it, Scorpion appears and attacks Sub-Zero. This attack is just a trick so that Scorpion can kidnap Kitana. Knowing that Liu Kang is not yet strong enough to fight Shao Kahn, Sub-Zero convinces Liu Kang to continue searching for the Night Wolf. Meanwhile, Sonya heads to her headquarters, where she recruits her old partner Jax, who has just donned robotic prostheses to increase his strength. Before they can leave, they are attacked by cyborg Cyrax with several of Shao Kahn's warriors. Sonya kills them and notices the symbol flying off Cyrax's shoulder. Then Cyrax turns on self-destruct mode, Sonya and Jax barely managed to flee and escape from the explosion.

Raiden meets the supreme gods and asks them three questions. He asks why Shao Kahn was allowed to break the rules of the competition and force his way into the Earthrealm, and how he can be stopped. But the answers of the gods are not satisfactory to him. A god named Shinnok says that reuniting Kitana with her mother Sindel is the key to Shao Kahn's defeat, but another god claims that Shao Kahn himself should be defeated in battle. Raiden is then asked about his feelings and obligations towards mortals, and what he would agree to do to keep them safe.

Liu Kang finally discovers Nightwolf, who reluctantly begins to teach him the Animality abilities needed to defeat Shao Kahn. But in order to achieve the proper spiritual state, Liu Kang needs to pass three tests. The first test is to test self-esteem and focus. The second is the temptation manifested in the form of Jade, who tries to seduce Liu Kang and make him forget about Kitana. Liu Kang resists Jade's spell, which impresses her. She offers her assistance in the battle against Shao Kahn. Liu Kang accepts her help and leads her to the Temple of the Old (Supreme) Gods, where he and his friends meet Raiden.

Sonya and Jax are on their way to the temple, but they are intercepted by an unearthly creature and Mileena, whom Sonya initially takes for Kitana. Jax defeats the creature and Sonya kills Mileena after fighting in a mud puddle. They see that Mileena has the same dragon tattoo as Cyrax. In the temple, the fighters of the Earth meet with Raiden, who gave up immortality in order to fight alongside the earthlings. Together, they travel to Outworld to rescue Kitana and help her reunite with her mother.

With the help of Jade, Liu Kang sneaks into Shao Kahn's castle and rescues Kitana, repelling an attack by four Tarkatans led by Baraka and killing Sindel's former guard, named Shiva. Raiden, Jax, and Sonya discover Sindel, but it was a trap. Raiden is attacked by three raptor warriors (similar to the Mortal Kombat Reptile), whom he manages to kill. After Raiden defeats three opponents, he discovers the corpse of Sindel, allegedly killed by Jade. Kitana is finally reunited with her mother. Sindel, pretending to be killed, meekly lies, waiting for the moment, having received it, she, of course, while still under Shao Kahn's control, gets to her feet in all weapons, and threatens the warriors of the earthlings and taunts Raiden.

Sindel reveals Shao Kahn's plans and ends up teleporting back to Shao Kahn. Jade turns out to be a traitor serving Shao Kahn, no longer hiding her intentions, she takes advantage of the turmoil caused by Sindel's teleportation and also runs away. She turns out to be Shao Kahn's spy, but Shao Kahn later kills her for incompetence. The wounds received by Raiden in the battles allow, through a torn shirt, to see the tattoo on his back. It turns out that this tattoo is a family crest, giving Raiden and his family free access to interdimensional portals. The tattoos on Cyrax, Smoke, and Mileena were only temporary, after their death, they disappeared, and in the case of Raiden, this privilege is not temporary. He then shocks everyone with the news that Shao Kahn is his brother and the Supreme god Shinnok is their father. Now, he also realizes that Shinnok lied to him about the reunion of Kitana and Sindel so that they would not pursue Shao Kahn. Raiden and the rest of the warriors prepare for the final battle with Shao Kahn and his generals.

Liu Kang and the friends openly challenge Shao Kahn and his allies to battle, but they are interrupted by Shinnok, demanding that Raiden return to his family and abandon his earthly allies. Raiden refuses to betray his fellow earthlings and is killed by Shao Kahn's magic. Two other Old Gods appear, discovering Shinnok's betrayal. They announce that the fate of Earth will be decided as it should be in Mortal Kombat, as will the fate of Shinnok and Shao Kahn.

In the final battle, Jax fights the centaur Motaro, Sonya fights the ninja Ermak, Kitana fights Sindel, and Liu Kang engages in a duel with Shao Kahn himself. The fight begins to go badly for earthlings: Shao Kahn and Sindel turn out to be much stronger than Liu Kang and Kitana, Motaro rips off one of Jax's prostheses, and Ermak calls his shadow Alter Ego to help Sonya (or, perhaps, the filmmakers wanted to mention another well-known character. True, neither Ermak had talents and opportunities in games - to invoke his Alter Ego, nor was he a comrade with Noob Saibot, who had no allies at all, and acted in his own interests). Further, each of the characters struggles with their weaknesses: suddenly Jax throws away his second prosthesis, and finds within himself the confidence and strength to defeat Motaro; Sonya asks for help for the first time in her life, and Jax is happy to help her. Jax knocks out Motaro, Sonya breaks Ermak's neck. Kitana manages to deceive Sindel by trick. Liu Kang manages to execute Animality (he becomes a dragon), but he barely manages to resist Shao Kahn's Animality, which turns into a hydra. Shao Kang begins to laugh and tease Liu Kang, making him even angrier and allowing Liu Kang to open up a second wind. Liu Kang defeats the Outworld Emperor once and for all, and Shinnok is banished to the Underworld by the Old Gods.

Earth returns to its pre-invasion state, and Shao Kahn's control over Sindel is finally broken, allowing mother and daughter to reunite. Raiden is resurrected by the Old Gods and offered the post of his father in the ranks of the Old Gods. Before leaving with the gods, Raiden admonishes his friends that they are now one family and should support each other in everything.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) - Theatrical Trailer

Mortal Kombat: Federation of Martial Arts

The film was released in 2000 immediately on DVD and received extremely little publicity. The film is styled after the Mortal Kombat series on Sega.

In this film, some of the actors from Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2: Annihilation, and Mortal Kombat: Conquest returned to their roles. Some of the characters are represented by chronicles.

It consists almost entirely of battles, representing an incessant series of fights. The most striking storyline is how Cyrax saved Sonya, for which he was put on trial, but then defeated Scorpion, who turned out to be Cyrax's double, as a result of which Scorpion was executed.
