Mai looks like she is going to be a lot of fun
Excitement is growing for Mai Shiranui who will join the Street Fighter 6 cast next month and to prepare for that, some more information about the character has been revealed to players and fans.
Maximilian Dood was able to get some minutes to try out the character which also came on top of some AI matches that showcased some of what Mai can do. There was also a feature in Game Watch magazine in Japan that went in-depth on how to use the character.
It seems that Mai will be a mix-up heavy character with tools that enable her to really get at opponents. Her fans, which act as projectiles, are pretty weak and can even be kicked out of the air. But, there is also a hold version of the projectile which strengthens it considerably.
Also of note is Mai's level one super which gives her five fire stocks which can be burned through pretty quickly on projectiles, her DP and so on. Her enhanced projectile also bounces when it hits the opponent. Early speculation is that a lot of players will opt to use Mai's level one a lot more than any other tool.
There was also some information about Mai's arcade story which starts off with her receiving a message from Andy Bogard, her eternal lover, and the genesis of a lot of her antics. Mai goes off after him and meets with Juri and a fight ensues. Not much else is known about what Mai can add to the Street Fighter lore.
Mai officially joins the cast on the 5th of February 2025 and will be tournament-legal for Capcom Cup.
