Kotal Kahn in Mortal Kombat
To feel confident in any matchup, you should know your opponent pretty well. That’s why Tekken Master starts his guide by explaining various basics.
Tekken Master has been a fan of Kotal Kahn since his addition to Mortal Kombat X. He played this character a lot at tournaments, alongside D’Vorah. Kotal Kahn was one of the strongest characters in MKX.
When he was added to MK11, Kotal Kahn wasn’t that strong. But then, the feature of Kustom Variations was added. Also, the developers fixed some stuff, like jailing Down 3 to Standing 1.
Variations
Kotal Kahn has many good variations in the game. Tekken Master uses four. He demonstrates the launcher (Kahn-Cut, DF2) and grab (Huehhueyi, DB2).
Most people pick Grand Discus that amplifies Yeyecame Disk (BF3) or Kahn-Cut with Huehhueyi, because you need tools to deal damage. Also, you can use Eztli Totem, DB SS or DF SS, for extreme damage. Or use the jaguar (Tecuani Maul, BF4) that can go through projectiles — for those players who don’t have a lot of patience.
Weaknesses
Tekken Master reveals that Kotal Kahn is not among his main characters in Mortal Kombat 11. He used this fighter only two times in tournaments. The reason is that Kotal Kahn doesn’t have a fast Mid.
Such an attack is important in this game. If you don’t have a fast Mid, it’s a problem.
The fastest attack for Kotal Kahn is F3, which is Low, and you can’t get much from a confirm after it (4).
F2 is a Mid attack, but it is slow. It’s 19 frames and can be used from some distance. Tekken Master prefers having a faster Mid.
But despite that, Kotal Kahn is used by one of the best players in the Middle East, Hunt Zombies.
Not so many other players use Kotal Kahn in tournaments. There are better characters in the game, but if you want damage and a well-rounded fighter, you might find that in Kotal Kahn.
Another issue with Kotal Kahn is the lack of tools when people mash against him.
Strengths
Kotal Kahn has a big amount of health, 1050. And he deals a lot of damage.
This character stays at a decent distance after his strings. It would be difficult to whiff- punish him.
His D3 opens opportunities for mind games, so it’s not easy to deal with Kotal Kahn.
