MenaRD Bemoans CPT Qualification, Announces Departure From Falcons
Mena hopes there is a way to get more top players into Capcom Cup

MenaRD, the only player to have won two Capcom Cup trophies, has shared some of his thoughts on the current qualification system for the Capcom Pro Tour. A couple of changes were made to the CPT format this year including the introduction of super regions and more premier tournaments.

This meant that there were now a total of 10 qualifiers for Capcom Cup from premier events, Mena qualified from one of them.

He asked a question about players who won their regional finals after starting from the losers side. The answer was that there were none as explained by Incross who said that of the 50 regional finals that have been played so far, the 1st seed has won on 10 occasions with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seed winning 5, 6, and 3 respectively.

Mena then commented that he feels the current system is too harsh on the lower seeds at the moment.

While most can empathize with where Mena is coming from, the reality is that this current system at least rewards those who have been consistent over the course of the season. Many have called for a return to the global leaderboard system, but the problem with that is that only players who can afford to travel or are sponsored will benefit from that.

Mena also announced his departure from Falcons Esports who he signed with last year as part of their team to try to win the Esports World Cup. He was unable to win the tournament and has now left the organization.

He announced it on a social media post saying that he is now a free agent and looks to win all the tournaments he is still a part of including Street Fighter League, Capcom Cup, and any other tournament.

Mena and the Birds are probably the most exciting and tantalizing talents in the fighting game market right now and it will be no surprise to see another top team try to snatch Mena up as soon as they can.
