Kenny Omega Recorded Mocap for the Next Street Fighter 6 Character
Alex will be moving like someone you might know.

While the fans still have to endure a long wait before Alex makes it into the game, the mild frustration has been somewhat offset by a cool bit of news about who plays Alex in Street Fighter 6.

In his recent tweet, noted fan of video games and anime, but also occasional wrestler, Kenny Omega, has revealed that he helped to record mocap animations for Alex.

It's not uncommon for modern video games, and especially fighting games, to record actual human movement. Capcom has shown a bit of this already when showing behind the scenes footage for the development of Jamie.

The captured animation data almost never makes it into the game in its initial state. It has to be cleaned up from all the jitters and weird errors, and animators still often have to go through it and adjust things to be more expressive or better match what is happening in the virtual world.

However, this data is absolutely invaluable, even as reference, because when you try to animate the human motion, you begin to notice how complex even the simplest actions actually are. Like think of throwing a punch. You don't just extend your arm. Your entire body twists in various ways to first arm that punch, then release it, and then you get a lot of follow up motion because that energy has to go somewhere.

In that regard, there is no better option for your mocap actor than a person who can do the moves you need on an instinctual level. That's how you get real authenticity at the fundamental level.

What's even better, is that they managed to fit in a little reference specifically to Kenny Omega. The guy has been a long time fan of fighting games, and you might have caught him at some events if you attended. He even named one of his key moves after Street Fighter V's V-Trigger. The attack in question is a vicious looking knee to the head that you can check out in the video below.

It only makes sense that one of his moves would now end up in Street Fighter 6, so if you land the OD Power Drop, you can do Omega Wing Buster as your alternative Level 2. This is a direct reference to Kenny's own One Winged Angel.

It seems like Capcom is going all-in with the wrestling theme on Alex, so there's no doubt we will see some even deeper cuts once the character comes out.
