Hit Box Announced its Licensing Program
The community isn’t happy

Hit Box Arcade, the prominent manufacturer of leverless arcade controllers, has announced its new Licensing Program, which aims to grant the right to use their patented layout to other companies. The licensing system will be divided into tiers – Red, Black, and Gold – “to determine a range of benefits and support.”

The community’s reaction to this announcement was negative. Many members of the FGC fear that this will only lead to legal action against smaller businesses that decided not to sign up for this licensing agreement for their leverless controllers. While this was never stated outright in the replies to the concerned users, the legal tone does indicate that this could be the option for Hit Box.

Others noted that this “patent flexing” goes against the very nature of the FGC being grassroots-oriented and that this is just a way to make more money from the niche that has notoriously never had much of it.
