Story modes are always a challenge for fighting game developers. It’s a place where players get to know this specific world and its inhabitants — those characters you can use in the actual matches. But also, weaving fights of various characters into the story flow is quite a task.

In some gamesб the whole experience is kind of forced: fights limit creativity of the story, while the plot limits development within the fights. The Guilty Gear series is on a different level as these games have no matches in their story modes. It’s mostly an anime series that allows players to feel the characters and understand their backgrounds.
