First To Three Debate Flares Up Again After East Coast Throwdown
Would It actually work?

The argument as to whether Capcom Pro Tour games should be first-to-2 or first-to-3 has raged on for a while with some of the opinion that the FT3 format is a better yardstick with which to judge the best while some argue that FT2 is faster and is just as effective as FT3.

The argument flared up again following the conclusion of East Coast Throwdown as some big names were taken down pretty surprisingly like AngryBird, JAK, and EndingWalker. Some attribute these defeats to the format.

Adding to the discourse was British player, Musclenoob, who posted some notes looking at the probability of any of the matches in the top 8 being different if it was FT2 and by his estimation, none of the results would have been different.

To butress the point, One Frame Link, a provider of stats within the FGC, posted an interesting statistic of FT3 games. According to their data, 86% out of 1333 FT3 matches had the player who won the first two games, go on to win the entire set.

This means that while there can be amazing comebacks, they are actually quite rare and only make up about 14% of matches.
