Evo Japan CTO Talks Plans for 2024 Event
The man behind the scenes for Evo Japan believes that Fighting games can never die

Evo Japan 2024 has already been announced and will be taking place in April next year with a huge 14 million yen prize pool for 7 games.

Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 will most likely be the most entered games for the event and Japan is gearing up for an influx of fighting game fans from all over the world looking to lock horns against the best of the best.

Speaking to, Yasuaki Matsuda, the Chief Tournament Organizer of Evo Japan, 4Gamer, a Japanese gaming outlet, delved into issues around the tournament and the planning that has gone into it.

The interview is in Japanese, but thanks to Jiyuna, AKA AnimeIlluminati, we have it in English.

In the interview, Matsuda asserted that he has been organizing events for over a decade and has all the experience needed to handle a massive event like Evo 2024.

When speaking about the potential issues with the tournament, the biggest worry seems to be the number of attendees. Since Evo Japan is an open bracket event, anyone can enter and considering Evo 2023 had over 7000 players for Street Fighter 6 alone, it has led to some concern. Add to that the fact that Tekken 8 will also be a game to be showcased at the event and you are looking at potentially ridiculous numbers.

Evo Japan 2024 will also be the first ever paid Evo event in Japan and according to Matsuda, this is simply bringing the country in line with the global standard for tournaments such as this.

He spoke about a lot of other things including how the change in venue could affect the tournament and how he rose within the community.

Evo Japan will take place between the 27th and 29th of  April 2024 in Tokyo, Japan.
