Two Japanese Players Qualify for Capcom Cup Via Spain & Oceania WW

Over the weekend, 10 more players qualified for Capcom Cup 13 through the World Warrior tournaments in various regions. These 10 included some very familiar names, including Phenom, Blaz, and Problem-X.

However, one of the more interesting stories from the weekend was the qualification of two more Japanese players who, while living in other regions, are eligible to participate in the World Warrior tournaments where they reside.

The two players in question are Naru, a Kimberly main living in Spain who qualified through the Spain/Portugal World Warrior event by defeating tomoeCunha and Kinaji, a Juri main based in Australia.

When these two are added to the five Japanese players who qualified through the global leaderboard, the three Japanese players who won Premier tournaments, the three Japanese players on REJECT who won the Street Fighter League World Championship and gained automatic qualification, and the two players who will qualify through the Japan World Warrior event, Japan could have a total of 16 players at Capcom Cup 13. Japan is the only Super Region that can qualify two players through World Warrior.

This would account for about 35% of the total participants and give Japan a significant presence at next year's finals. Considering how strong a region Japan is, this does not feel particularly unfair, as players from all regions had fairly equal opportunities to compete in tournaments.

The next round of regional finals for the World Warrior program will take place between 31 October and 1 November 2026. Six more players will qualify for Capcom Cup, as excitement begins to build for next year's showpiece event.
