Evo Japan Reveal Initiative To Discover Hidden Gems In Fighting Games
Evo Japan is looking to keep the FGC in Japan in a vibrant state

Evo Japan has announced the EVO Japan CHALLENGE 2024 in KAGOSHIMA a regional tournament that is aimed at spreading awareness of fighting games around Japan, but also to discover hidden gems in the country.

Japan's FGC has always been a vibrant scene and they are leaning into it as they are the first country to have a players association for gamers, and were the pioneers of having fighting game professionals.

However, the Covid pandemic affected the scene quite a bit as it emptied out arcades even more and made travel a lot more difficult.

With this initiative, it is hoped that more players will be willing to travel, or at least come out to compete more.

The event will take place on the 8th and 9th of March 2024, which is over a month before Evo Japan and will happen at the Li-Ka Tropical Event Hall

The games on display will be Street Fighter 6, which has been wildly popular in Japan, and Tekken 8 which is the toast of the fighting game world right now.

Tokyo has always been the center of the FGC and has brought about some great players, but the likes of Gachikun who is a Capcom Cup winner, came from Hiroshima before moving to Tokyo later.

Evo Japan will run from the 27th to the 29th of April 2024.
