Capcom Release Updates For Capcom Pro Tour 2026
There were updates galore including a new region for Chile, a new tournament and some changes in the allotment of 'Super Region'

The new Capcom Pro Tour (CPT) season is about to begin! The annual circuit that culminates in Capcom Cup, has excited fans for years and has come out with some new updates to consider.

As announced during Capcom Cup, the prize pool has been increased to over $2.1m, with Street Fighter League World Championship consequently seeing its prize pool rise.

The official website for CPT has outlined some important information, including how players qualify. Some of the most important updates includes:

Roadmap For Capcom Cup Qualification

There will be 48 players at Capcom Cup 13 and once again, there will be no last chance qualifier. There will be 9 premiere events in which the winner will gain an automatic ticket into Capcom Cup. The global leaderboard will be making a return and an extra slot has been added compared to last year meaning that 7 players will qualify via this route as opposed to 6 from last year.

Chile Announced as a New Region

Another pertinent announcement is that Chile, which has produced some incredible fighting game talent, including Blaz and Craime, has been allotted as an individual region in the World Warrior (WW) program. This puts it on par with Brazil which until now had been the only Southern American country to have its own status as a region.

On top of that, Japan is now the only super region, meaning it is the only country that can produce two qualifiers through WW. This means that the United Kingdom, Asia, and East Asia have lost their status as super regions.

Battle Arena Melbourne Joins CPT Circuit

Battle Arena Melbourne (BAM), the premier event in Australia, has been added to the CPT circuit. It joins Evo Japan, Vegas, and France, along with Combo Breaker, CEO, and Blink Respawn as a premier qualifier for Capcom Cup. This means that there are two more tournaments that will be on the circuit that are yet to be announced.

Some Controversies Remain

While the return of Capcom Cup is welcome, there are still a few things that fans have been left a little unsettled by. For one, there is still no World Warrior for most of Africa with South Africa being the only nation to have a region and the countries added to the circuit don't work out from a connection standpoint, this cuts out over 70% of the rest of the region. Prominent player, Big Bird, also raised alarm at the decision by Capcom to add Egypt to the Middle-East region despite it being an African nation. The two-time Red Bull Kumite winner bemoaned the fact that online matches with the country aren’t great due to a high ping, and will only undeserving both sides.

CPT kicks off in less than a month with Evo Japan as the first stop. Evo Japan will hold between the 1st and 3rd of May 2026.
