During the recent Blink Respawn tournament which was won by NoahTheProdigy, it was announced that Capcom will be introducing some new ways to get into Capcom Cup. One of the ways revealed was through the Street Fighter League World Championship with all four players qualifying for the next Capcom Cup.
This means that whoever wins the SFL World Championship in 2025 will qualify for Capcom Cup 12 automatically.
As the days have passed, the ramifications of that decision are beginning to come out especially with the way SFL Europe has been playing out.
SFL Europe is closing in on its end with Ninjas In Pyjamas blazing a trail with a whopping 300 points, a record in SFL. With a team lineup of Big Bird, AngryBird, Phenom and Veggey, they are certainly a team that will likely win SFL EU and are in contention to win the World Championship.
The issue most have identified is the fact that none of NIP's wins have involved Veggey, a Zangief player from Norway. Veggey is a strong player from Europe and has qualified for Capcom Cup before, but questions arise as to whether a player that is potentially being carried by his team should earn a spot in Capcom Cup.
The new Capcom Cup qualification method could also mean that teams might discard synergy for talent, a style which may or may not be effective. Big Bird weighed in on this in a post where he explained that the criticism of player friends making up a team was not valid.
