Johnny Cage is a quintessential rushdown character that wants to be in your face at all times with his string pressure and staggers. Adding to this are respectable zoning options, making it hard for any opponent to just try to play the range game. But he is not the golden boy he believes himself to be, there are ways to break the Hollywood star and today, with the help of VideoGamezYo, we will tell you all about them.

Johnny Cage's Variations
Johnny Cage suffers from low damage krushing blows; his variation move Throwing Shades (UD2), can help alleviate this but only when he is in low health. Although it is easier said than done, it's essential to KO Jonny Cage quickly and not let him stay around in low health; the shades serve as a potential comeback with their Krushing blow.
Pissed Off (DBF1) is another problematic variation move, as it allows JC players to punish you for early breakaways. The best way to counter that is to make the read on whether your opponent is fishing for you to break away. You will eat up a bit more damage as you wait to see if they are going for pissed off, but that is a price worth paying to avoid losing a defensive bar and still taking a lot of damage.
Finally, Rising Star (DB3) is a great tool for Johnny Cage, being gapless and allowing him to reset neutral on block. Strategy-wise, Rising Star leaves JC in a worse position, as it costs him resources to execute it, giving you an advantage on the macro, but it's on you to make the most of it. As for the move itself, mix up your blocks.
Johnny Cage's Problem Moves
- D3 & D4 - Forward advancing attacks after blocking the poke will work.
- j2 - Duck and then stand attack to avoid the trade.
- 1, 2, 4 - Low pokes are your best bet when in the corner.
Johnny Cage's Weaknesses
Johnny has a narrow path to victory, and much of it relies on being able to shimmy and throw you around. If you practice enough, you can make it much harder for JC players to throw you, which means you will only really need to worry about the strings, most of which will reset neutral if blocked. Keeping a safe distance and denying JC his throws will go a long way into pigeon-holing him into a loss.
