Top 50 Most Influential People in the FGC – Part 1
Today, we have an MvC legend, a murder-face from Japan, commentator twins, an all-American champion, and FGC’s biggest sneakerhead

Just like any thriving industry, the FGC has its own constellation of stars and leaders who have left a lasting mark on the scene. These influential figures, whether through their extraordinary skill on the arcade stick or a gamepad, their extraordinary contributions to the community, or their tireless efforts in fostering growth and inclusivity, have helped shape the FGC into what it is today. In this series of articles, we embark on a journey to recognize and celebrate the Top 50 Most Influential People in the FGC, highlighting the personalities and achievements that have left a lasting impact on this community that we call our home.

However, it's essential to note that while this list aims to honor some of the most remarkable individuals within the FGC, the inherent subjectivity of such rankings means that many other influential figures may not find themselves among these fifty names. The FGC is diverse and expansive, teeming with talent and dedication at every level, and influence often extends beyond the boundaries of a list. This compilation serves as a tribute to those who have undoubtedly played a significant role in the growth and evolution of the Fighting Game Community, but it's important to remember that the impact of countless others is equally valuable and deserving of recognition.

The first five people we want to highlight are actually six people, but you’ll understand the reason behind that as you go through the list. Today, we have an FGC veteran and multiple-times Evo champion, Justin Wong; a murder-face from Japan, feared and admired Tokido; commentator twins from Great Britain who are the voices of MK esports, Ketchup and Mustard; an all-American champion and Red Bull Athlete, Anakin, and FGC’s biggest sneakerhead and Evo business developer Markman. Congratulations!

Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi

In the ever-changing realm of competitive gaming, one name stands out as a beacon of skill, dedication, and innovation – Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi. At the tender age of 38, this Japanese prodigy has not only conquered the Street Fighter scene but has also redefined what it means to be a professional gamer. One of Japan's five "fighting game gods," he's not only a competitor but a mentor, inspiring the next generation of gamers to pursue their passions with unwavering dedication.

Ryan "Ketchup" Neal & Jake "Mustard" Neal

Ketchup and Mustard's journey in the FGC has been a dynamic fusion of passion, expertise, and charisma. Together, they have achieved the remarkable feat of turning their love for fighting games into a thriving career. Renowned for their infectious enthusiasm, encyclopedic knowledge, and witty banter, this commentary duo has become a household name among MK fans worldwide. What sets Ketchup and Mustard apart is their ability to connect with audiences on an unprecedented level and how they complement each other during casts.

Justin "JWong" Wong

Very few names in gaming resonate as powerfully as Justin Wong. With a career spanning over two decades, this legendary competitor and community ambassador has not only rewritten the rules of competitive gaming but has also left an indelible mark on the FGC. Known for his unparalleled skill across a multitude of fighting games, he has consistently demonstrated his versatility and an exceptional ability to adapt to diverse titles.

Mark "MarkMan" Julio

MarkMan's journey began as a passionate gamer, but it was his visionary spirit that truly set him apart. His pioneering work in designing and promoting arcade fightsticks has been nothing short of transformative. Beyond hardware, MarkMan's influence extends to community-building. He is not only an advocate for the FGC but a hands-on participant. His work as a commentator, event organizer, and community liaison has helped forge connections among gamers worldwide. Now, he’s one of the leaders in bringing Evo to the next level. Also a proud owner of arcade stick and sneaker collections.

Hoa "Anakin" Luu

Renowned for his unparalleled skills in the Tekken series, Anakin has consistently been a formidable force on the global stage. His exceptional understanding of the game's mechanics and strategic depth has earned him a well-deserved reputation as one of the greatest Tekken players in the world. Leading the North American community by example, he also became one of the first gamers to receive the honor of becoming a Red Bull Athlete. With his focus being firmly on Tekken 8, we still have many years of his excellence ahead of us.

This is just the first part of our project. We will keep highlighting these shining personalities for ten weeks until the Top 50 is complete. And also, feel free to mention people who you think deserve to be applauded for their achievements alongside these esteemed stars! See you next Monday!
