There was a break in tradition

The latest premier event for the Capcom Pro Tour just concluded with East Coast Throwdown and the winner was none other than Japan's Itabashi Zangief who took the tournament after a Grand Final bout with iDom's Manon.

It was an all grappler affair with both Zangief and Manon, with Itazan on winners' side. He was able to take the tournament 3-1.

It means that Itazan has now qualified for Capcom Cup and is the first Japanese player to do so.

Itazan had some warm words after the winning, saying in a video posted on X, that "I did it!"

It was also a great tournament for iDom who went on a run reminiscent of his Evo 2022 display where he went through a gautlet to make it to Grand Finals against Kawano but ultimately lost out. iDom had been put in losers' by Prophet way back in the Winners' finals for pools.

From there he defeated a lot of players including Tino, JB, Daigo, Dual Kevin, and Nephew.

iDom's loss also means that this is the first time in the CPT for this year where a foreigner got the win at an event with the previous ones (Evo, CCC, and UFA) all being won by natives (Punk, MenaRD, and Kusanagi).
