Skullgirls: 2nd Encore results - Evo 2022
A perfect Evo main stage debut for a 10 year old game.

Skullgirls is celebrating a 10 year anniversary and making an Evolution Championship Series main stage debut is a perfect way to mark this fantastic stylish game in history. Sure, Skullgirls already was in Evo 2021 Online's main lineup, but this year's in-person experience was completely different for sure. Down below you'll find a short recap of what was going on during the final stages of this intense tournament.

Top 48

The pre-final stage winners side passed through almost perfectly smooth with most of the games finishing 3-0. SonicFox, Cloud, penpen, and dekillsage went as knife through butter all the way up to the Top 8, where you should expect them. Losers side delivered some dramatic outcomes, like Dudeguy M.B's reverse 3-0 against rikasun on the last digit of his Beowulf's health bar, or WingZero's near-perfect performance with solo Filia vs Tyrone O'Canada

After the stage was set for the Top 8, we witnessed an exhibition showmatch between SonicFox and penpen, showcasing Black Dahlia, a new character which is going to be released in the near future.

Top 8

In the Final bracket, SonicFox showed all their determination to win the whole thing right from the start by sending Cloud to the Losers side. In the mean time, their friend and teammate was dealing with penpen, Combo Breaker 2022 champion and only non-American representative in the Top 8. dekillsage ended up winning in a very tight set and was about to face SonicFox in the final.

WingZero continued to demonstrate a confident performance with Filia and made it to Losers quarters, only to be taken down by penpen in a clean 3-0 fashion. LazyBakeOven advanced over Dudeguy M.B. to meet Cloud and was defeated 3-2 in a dramatic set.

In the winners finals, SonicFox left dekillsage zero chance with a swift 3-0 victory and came one step closer to the big victory. However, dekillsage clearly had different plans. He took down penpen, who kicked out Cloud with a 3-0, once again in another very close 3-2 set in the losers final and set the stage for the main game of the night.

Grand Final

Well, everything went clearly not as SonicFox planned during the Grand Final. dekillsage was playing the game of his life there, literally storming over SonicFox. It looked like dekillsage knew his opponent so well he could read literally every move they made, so it ended up with a swift 3-0, and we were about to witness one more game.

Grand Final reset, however, started completely different. SonicFox learned from the mistakes and took one game after another. However, an unfortunate drop at the very end of game 3 made dekillsage's comeback possible. All of a sudden it started to look like a reverse 3-0 was about to happen, as dekillsage took two games in a row, bringing us to game 5. The last game of the night ended up being pretty one-sided, as SonicFox handled all the pressure and showed once again why they're considered the best fighting game player in the world. 3-2 is the final score, and SonicFox is your crowned Evo 2022 Skullgirls champion!
