SF6 Modder Explains Enigma Situation
Things might not be as bad as they seem

The recent discussion about Capcom adding the Enigma DRM to their older titles. There was a lot of uncertainty about what it does, when it was added, or how much it actually affects the games where it is implemented.

Frustrated about misinformation, SF6 modder FluffyQuack (the creator of Fluffy Manager), laid out some information on their Patreon.

They go in pretty interesting details regarding the whole topic, but major points come down to the fact this:

  • Enigma is not a new development, RE5 for example had it added a year ago, with no real changes. It's also in their recent titles, like the PC release of Ghost Trick.
  • There is no evidence to show that it affects framerate or prevents these games from running on SteamDeck.
  • It doesn't actually prevent people from running modes, especially the most common ones. It only affects mods that require attaching a debugger used in trainer and code-changing tools.

Enigma primarily seems to be a byproduct of Capcom trying to combat cheating and piracy, which also happens to affect other things in a very minor way. This is not to say that most of any customers actually benefit from it, as it seems to have no real impact on the only aspect of gameplay that you might care about, which is cheating, but it's best to know facts regarding the issue. It's the only way to make accurate and useful criticism.
