MultiVersus Is Back, But Not Really
Somehow, MultiVersus returned.

You know, everyone sort of got their laugh when MultiVersus finally went under after barely even being out. And let's be honest, it was hard not to. Even as someone who enjoyed the game, the whole process was a comedy of errors.

The game launched as perhaps the most promising competitor to Super Smash Bros. that we've seen... well, ever! As good as Rivals of Aether might be, it was always a niche title, and the sequel isn't changing that, since it's primarily aiming to satisfy more hardcore fans of the genre.

But then comes in MultiVersus, a fairly good-looking game with a gigantic pool of Warner Bros. IPs that it can pull from. Free-to-play, decent starting roster, fun character kits, and most importantly, fairly novel competitive mode that focused on 2v2 with unique loadouts and synergies. Everything was looking up.

But then the game launched in only a few regions, cutting off a mind-boggling amount of potential players. They knew that the genre has a lot of diehard fans, yet didn't provide them with a ranked duel mode to satisfy the competitive players.

Then the game outright goes offline for an extended period of time, killing a lot of hype and trust, only to return in an arguably worse state while introducing far more predatory MTX.

It's a real shame. Even though it's easy to see why it became a subject of ridicule, most people who played it would also likely agree that it had a lot to love, which is why quite a few people were sad to see Warner Bros. shut that game down so unceremoniously shortly after release.

Well, if you were one of the people who loved that game, there are some great news. MultiVersus is back. Not in an official capacity, sadly, but via OpenVersus, a community projects with servers created by the MVS Infinite team.

In essence, this is just MultiVersus, looking and playing just the way it did when you last saw it. You obviously won't have new seasons or predatory MTX, which is arguably just a plus, and you can still play it with other people. They even have working matchmaking.

You will have to do a bit of tinkering to get the game running and start playing, but it's nothing that PC players haven't dealt with in the past, and overall there's nothing overly complicated. So you missed out on your chance to try this game, or simply missed playing it, now is the time.

Warner Bros. might take this down at some point, but realistically they have no good reason to. After all it's not like they're doing anything with the IP, and likely have no plans of bringing it back.
