MultiVersus Goes Offline on June 25th Until Full Release in 2024
The Open Beta Period ended, but all purchases will remain in its full launch.

MultiVersus is, all be it temporarily, going offline on June 25th to prepare for its full release come 2024. Last year, MultiVersus was released as an Open Beta, and although it has been quite a few months, with multiple content drops and new characters. Tony from the Player First Games development team writes in their blog post about the news:

"[...] we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps, and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements."

In that same blog post, an FAQ can be found detailing how the process of the shutdown will occur. Starting in April 4th, the game will be pulled from online storefronts, although not taken out of player's libraries, as well as Gleamium is no longer being sold. Players will be able to continue playing the game online until June 25th, after which only the Lab will remain accessible.

You can find the same FAQ, as the one present in the blog post, below.

  • The MultiVersus Open Beta will be closed on June 25, 2023.

When will the MultiVersus Open Beta close?

  • We’ll provide the exact time of day on June 25 as we get closer to the date.

Why is the MultiVersus Open Beta closing?

  • The MultiVersus Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity and a stepping stone to the next phase of the game. There is still a lot of work to do, and we have a clearer view on where we need to focus, specifically on the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to provide more ways to enjoy the game, along with netcode and matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be reworking the progression system and looking at new ways for players to connect with friends in the game. To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we’ll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch of MultiVersus, which we are targeting for early 2024.

When will MultiVersus launch?

  • We are targeting early 2024 for the launch of MultiVersus.

Will MultiVersus still be available for download?

  • MultiVersus will be temporarily removed from digital storefronts and unavailable for download beginning on April 4, 2023. The game will be available for download until that time.

Will Gleamium still be available for purchase?

  • Gleamium will be temporarily removed from digital storefronts and unavailable for purchase beginning on April 4, 2023. Gleamiumwill be available for purchase until that time.

Will MultiVersus be available between now and June 25, 2023?

  • For those who have downloaded the game before April 4, 2023, MultiVersus will be fully available until the Open Beta closes on June 25, 2023.

Will the MultiVersus Season 2 Battle Pass be extended past March 31, 2023?

  • The Season 2 Battle Pass will be extended through June 25, 2023, which is when the Open Beta is scheduled to close. During this time, Daily Missions will continue to be added for players to earn additional Battle Pass points, until the game is taken offline on June 25. Weekly Seasonal Milestones, however, will no longer be refreshed beginning on March 31, 2023.

If players delete MultiVersus, will they be able to reinstall the game after April 4, 2023?

  • For players who have downloaded the game before April 4, 2023, they will be able to re-download MultiVersus from their system after the game is removed from digital storefronts on April 4 and after the game is taken offline on June 25, 2023.

If players have MultiVersus installed, will any in-game modes be available after June 25, 2023?

  • Those who have downloaded MultiVersus before April 4 will have limited offline access to the training room (known as The Lab) and local matches, along with access to previously earned or purchased characters and cosmetic items within those modes. Please note, all online modes and features will be unavailable during this downtime, until the game returns next year.

Will there be any additional MultiVersus in-game updates available after June 25, 2023?

  • We’ll be pausing all MultiVersusupdates after April 4, 2023, and taking the game offline on June 25, 2023, as we prepare for launch, which we are targeting for early 2024.

What will happen to previously earned or purchased in-game content after the Open Beta closes?

  • All progress and previously earned or purchased content will carry over when MultiVersus returns in early 2024. This includes unused Gleamium, Battle Pass tokens, character tickets and any other in-game items – all content will carry over to the game next year.

Will refunds be available for previously purchased content?

  • This announcement does not change any current refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) from which Founder’s Packs or Gleamium bundles were purchased. For more information, please visit the customer support pages for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic Games. Additionally, refunds are not available as a result of the Open Beta closure. However, all progress and previously earned or purchased content will carry over when MultiVersus returns in early 2024.

What changes will be implemented as part of the MultiVersus launch?

  • We plan to focus on several areas, including the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes; netcode and matchmaking improvements; progression system updates; and much more. We’ll have additional details to share as we get closer to launch.

Will new characters and modes be added to MultiVersus as part of the launch?

  • Players can expect a variety of new content, features, modes and other updates. We’ll have more details to share as we get closer to launch.

Ending with a recommendation to follow MultiVersus across their various, like their Twitter, Instagram, Discord, and Facebook.
