Skarlet is a very fascinating character with a unique set of skills that need to be practiced to properly wield. She is a great tournament character with a flurry of great normals and a great understanding of space. To help those who have chosen to go with this character and improve with her, DashFight has sought the help of the one and only Eva, or EvaMariaXo. She is an incredible MK11 representative who has won a fair few tournaments including TORNEO INTERNACIONAL FEMENINO. She has also placed very well in several other tournaments like Bring the Heat, COED Kombat 2v2, Kombat Island, Sunday Night Slaughter, and so on. On top of that, she is a tournament organizer and was the mastermind behind The PRIDE Event (North America & Europe). You can follow her on Twitter.
As a character adept at controlling the space, poking tools are incredibly important, and the buttons available to such a character are probably one of the strongest things in their arsenal. Eva takes us through Skarlet's best buttons and why they are useful for you.
1- This is a quick, 7f jab that is great for checking opponents. It is also only -1 on block
D1- Same as above, great for checking opponents
F4- While slow, this is an effective move to shimmy the opponent
F2- Pretty slow (13f) but it makes up for this deficiency with its great reach
2- Probably her best button. It is 0 on block and pushes opponents back significantly
B3- This is her low starter, it is also a relatively slow move, but a decent shimmy tool nonetheless
D3- Long-range poking tool. While it is slow and -7 on block, the range ensures that it is almost impossible to punish
Skarlet's Best Variations
Skarlet has a few variations that are useful depending on the matchup. But for Eva, she reckons that these are the best to go with:
Bloodport (DU)
Boiling Point (BF4)
Dagger Dance (DB1)
Skarlet's Gameplan
As mentioned earlier, Skarlet is great at managing space and ensuring that opponents are exactly where she wants them to be. To pull this off, she is equipped with some great zoning tools, including some great projectiles that go both high and low. To top it all off, her projectiles are even effective against projectile immunity, so Jade and Shang Tsung users are not safe at all. Even more impressive are her long-range normals, which make her difficult to whiff punish.
Skarlet's Best Strings
Skarlet has some problematic strings in that they have flawless block gaps in them so you need to be careful when using them. That said, they are also useful in spacing the opponent and getting some decent damage.

Skarlet Guide Conclusion
Skarlet is a decent character for a novice, but you should all keep in mind that her flawless block gaps could be problematic. Once you can work around those, then you are well on your way to becoming a Skarlet master in MK11.
