Li Mei's Gameplay Basics

Buttons

  • J1: good only in air-to-air situations.

  • J2: you can catch your opponent out with this jump-in.

  • D4: lacks a bit of range compared to many others.

  • D3: not good at all, don’t use it.

  • 1,2,4: her main string. You punish and enforce your gameplay with this.

  • B3: advancing move that +3 on block. Can lead to devastating damage if your opponent guesses the wrong mixup. Some of the options include:

    • B3,1,2,4

    • B3,D1

    • B3,4

  • 2,1 and 2,1,4: good string that has an armor gap, so be careful. Not the most useful string.

  • F3: a high that can be easily canceled, allowing for more mind games.

  • F4,3: a good tool to catch your opponents out. Also a combo starter. Quite unsafe, so be mindful.

  • F3,4: if you use 4 in this string, it’s full-combo punishable. But you can use your Kameo instead.

  • B2: one of her fastest buttons, but you can’t convert it into anything.

  • F3,1,2: just a good pressure tool.

Special Moves

  • BF1: a projectile that can be used both on the ground and in the air. A full launcher when amped.

  • BF4: amazing range and has armor.

  • DB2: Li Mei’s air control tool. If it’s out, your opponent basically can’t jump in. Can be detonated by an air projectile for a launcher.

  • DB3: a good anti-air. 7-frame startup when amped. Nice to punish pokes.

  • DB4: easily punished when used unamped. Not punishable at all when amped, but still can be flawless blocked.

Li Mei’s Strengths and Weaknesses

Li Mei’s greatest weakness is the lack of range. None of her moves reach as far as most others, but at least she has a projectile. She also doesn’t have a fast mid.

She is, however, a queen of control. Both space and flow of the match. She can easily push opponents into making hasty moves and mistakes. Not the fastest or flashiest character, but very cerebral and patience-rewarding.
