During the recent Thailand Game Show, HiFight sat down with Nakayama and Matsumoto, and asked them a series of really good questions.
During the later part of October, Show No Limit and Online Station held the latest annual Thailand Game Show 2025 at Queen Sirikit in Bangkok.
Not missing the opportunity, HiFight, one of the pillars of SF community, managed to get an interview with SF6 director, Takayuki Nakayama, and producer Shuhei Matsumoto.
You can watch the original video below. The interview was conducted in Japanese, but has English and Thai subtitles.
The interview opens up with several more general questions about the new characters, but we want to focus on some of the curious specifics that came through in some of the questions.
For example, it turns out that the curious selection of available characters for the V-Rival battles is the result of individual player preferences. For example, while Justin Wong chose only Juri, Betty selected several characters that represented previous OG Hunts.
At the end, he also managed to sneak in a little question that no doubt interests many SF6 players, do the developers have plans for the balance update? Unsurprisingly yes, and really want to put it out there, but thanks to the esports side of the game, the timing for releasing the patch is quite tricky.
It seems that, to some extent, the competitive scene is unintentionally holding the updates hostage. It's quite an awkward situation, because you want the pros to be at their best and give everyone some exciting matches, but for the part of the audience that doesn't care about the events, these staggered releases simply lead to the game feeling stale.
It's a rather unique lose/lose situation that a lot of modern fighting game developers have to struggle with, even more so than other major developers that lead competitive live service titles.
