The Arc World Tour finale brought us a lot of high level actions, but also a great amount of news surrounding the Arc System Works titles. Chief among them is, of course, the much anticipated Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 announcement.
Some have anticipated that 2.0 might take the game in a new direction, and move it closer to older titles, but really this update is more about expanding what's already in the game.
You can find the trailer below, but if you want a quick summary of what to expect, here's a list:
- New special moves for some characters
- Balance adjustments for all characters
- Wild Assault is removed and replaced with Counter Blitz
- Seasonal Battle Pass system
- Many new customization options, from character accessories to UI and profile customization
As for new characters, Jam is finally coming to Strive, so that's one less OG missing from the latest release, with Robo-Ky coming right after her in the Summer of 2026.
It's hard to tell how exactly she will play from this trailer, but it seems like she retains a lot of her defining tools. Naturally, Strive iterations of characters tend to come with significant changes, even if their tools are similar, but it seems like her general identity is very much intact.
Moving on to more sweeping differences, Arc System Works is removing an entire mechanic to replace it with something else. Many players have not liked the addition of Wild Assault and it's weird per character differences, if you're one of them, rejoice.
Wild Assault has been replaced with Counter Blitz. This move costs 50% of your Burst meter, and can only be done during a Counter hit from Slash or Heavy Slash. It's not really clear what role this will serve, but it could have an interesting place in the game with some wall changes to go along with it.
Some characters will also be getting new special moves. We only saw a handful of examples, but given how many characters are in Strive, it will likely apply to way more than just 4 characters. Here are the examples we saw in the trailer.
- Leo gets a short range crossover leap.
- Nagoriyuki's new attack sends out a long distance shockwave to either side of him, which grants a hard knockdown on counter hit.
- Ky has what appears to be a follow-up for his Stun Edge, which turns it into a vertical strike. The example footage shows that this can hit people trying to go over or under Stun Edge.
- Sol gets a new move that resembles his good old sidewinder, though this version might be a DP follow-up.
Guilty Gear Strive will also be getting a seasonal Battle Pass. As expected, parts of it will be free, while the rest will require a premium battle pass that will cost 6 bucks or your regional equivalent.
As for content in the Battle Pass, it seems like there will be a lot of different rewards, from short stories to UI skins.
This massive update should be coming in a few weeks, on April 9th.
