Mortal Kombat 1 might be about to face the same axe that befell MK11
The future of Mortal Kombat 1 is in deep doubt following allegations that the planned expansions for the game have been scrapped following poor sales. The allegations were made by famed Mortal Kombat leaker FateUnknown on Reddit as they claimed that there were plans for a Kombat pack 3 and a story expansion both of which have been canned and instead players might get a new character or two after Kombat pack 2 but that's it.
FateUnknown is generally considered to be a reliable source of insider information. In this Reddit thread, when countered by the fact that Ed Boon promised more characters and support for the game, FateUnknown explained that the planned expansions were cancelled due to the poor sales of Khaos Reigns, the first expansion of the game.
Considering Mortal Kombat 1 was released just last year, ending support for the game so soon has a lot of fans concerned as they believe once again to be on the wrong side of Warner Bros. the owners of the franchise. Mortal Kombat 11 suffered a similar fate with support for the game coming to an end in 2021, just two years after its release in 2019.
