A vastly different tier list from the last one
Evo winner, AngryBird, done with a pilgrimage to Japan, has released a new tier list for Street Fighter 6 based on the experiences in the East Asian nation facing some very strong players.
AngryBird was in Japan with Big Bird and Phenom to represent Europe and the Middle East in the FAV Cup where he played in the singles tournament which he won, and in the team tournament against a Japanese team.
The three week trip was filled with several matches and a wealth of experience, but they also experienced an evolution in their conception of the tier list of Street Fighter 6.
The new tier list still has a lot of the characters you expect at the top, but with some significant differences.
As with AngryBird's Street Fighter 6 tier lists, there was no 'C' or 'D' tier with the lowest tier being the 'B' tier. This is hinged on the belief that every Street Fighter character is viable in one way or the other.
At the top of the tree was JP who is believed to be the best character in the game even by Japanese players. A character that really went up in estimation was Chun li who is now considered one of the top 3 characters in the game. In the lower end of things, Zangief is not considered the weakest, but rather Honda, followed by Manon.
Characters like Lily who is perenially placed in the bottom tier, found herself firmly mid-tier thanks to the Japanese players like Hibiki the Beast, Kichipa, and even Pugera utilizing the character with some success.
A.K.I. who is the newest character to the game was considered a low tier, but players like Broski has won tournaments with her and Hikaru, a young Japanese prodigy is doing some amazing work with her which sees her in the mid-tier.
It goes to show that as the game develops, the meta changes and opinion about character strength continues to evolve.
With the game's first balance patch set to come some time after Capcom Cup, we can expect some major upheaval to the game's meta.
