The action star who was one of the main inspirations for Johnny Cage is brought to life in Mortal Kombat 1
The trailer for the Jean-Claude Van Damme Johnny Cage skin has dropped on YouTube. The legendary action star was one of the main inspirations for Johnny Cage and will now be featured in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1.
The news was first put out by Ed Boon while on the hot seat for the famous YouTube web show, Hot Ones. There Boon had said that they tried to get JCVD's cooperation for the game which was to be called Van Damme: The Game. But things broke down and we have Mortal Kombat instead.
Asked about what went into the process of adding guest characters, Boon said it was simply a case of if they liked the character.
In the trailer, we see some of what Van Damme is capable of and the addition of Van Damme's voice is so awesome, but better still, it feels right on Johnny.
The design of the skin resembles the cult movie Bloodsport, where Jean-Claude Van Damme played the leading role. The only difference is the colour of the belt: while it was golden in the movie, in the game, it was recoloured to the more suitable red.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on the 14th of September for those who got the premium version and it already promises to be a great outing. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
