Evo 2024: What To Expect And All You Need To Know
The biggest event in all of the FGC is here!

Evolution Championship 2024 comes with an air of freshness this summer as the tournament which has typically happened in early August is now making its mark in July.

Evo is the biggest fighting game tournament in the world and features the best players, best games, and all the hype that the fighting game fan can ask for.

What’s New With Evo?

There are a couple of things to note that will be a little different. The first is that this is perhaps the biggest Evo that has been held to date with about 16,000 players registering to play. Also, some older titles have gotten a lot of love including Street Fighter 3rd Strike which recorded over 1000 competitors, the highest it has received in well over a decade.

You can read up on more of the new things to expect from Evo, here

There Will Be 8 Dedicated Channels To Showcasing Evo Action

Evo is a festival of fighting games with various channels showing off all the action coming from the venue. There will be 8 Twitch channels to check out all the games.

All the Top 6’s of the tournament will be shown on the official Evo channel.

The Games Of Evo 2024

There will be a tonne of games at Evo 2024 with eight games gracing the mainstage. Those games are:

  • King of Fighters XV - Part of the SNK world championship

  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike - NA

Major Announcements

With over 50,000 attendees for this year’s Evo, this is a prime opportunity for gaming companies to showcase what is next for their respective games and maybe even new announcements from games not at the event.

Street Fighter 6

The major announcement for Street Fighter 6 has already been done with the news that Capcom Cup will be held in Japan already known amongst fans. Also, the huge season 2 news was revealed at Summer Game Fest and we all know that Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui are coming to Street Fighter 6. What we might hope for is some news regarding Terry’s gameplay, maybe a glimpse at his World Tour involvement like was done with A.K.I. last year.

Tekken 8

Lidia is the newest character coming to Tekken 8 and that is no longer news. In terms of announcements, what fans can perhaps hope for is a hint of other characters coming to the game. Or, maybe something about Soulcalibur remote as this might seem.

Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 will be releasing Takeda soon along with Ferra and the former will be playable at Evo 2024. However, there will be no other news as the game is waiting till the San Diego Comic con later in the month to talk about their future plans.

SNK

There’s some hope that there will be KOF XV news as they have already hinted at this.

Perhaps there will be some information about a couple of more characters and what next for KOF XV as the game is far from dead even if it isn’t as popular as it used to be. There should also be something for Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves which is slated to come out in early 2025.

ARC System Works

Guilty Gear -STRIVE- has retained a steady fanbase over its lifespan and has also featured 3 successful seasons. The 4th season has been announced and should arrive in the near future.

ARC Sytem Works are also in charge of the new Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact and there should be some more gameplay reveals after what we got recently

Others

There will be announcement on Multiversus as they have stated on X, and there is hope that there might even be something on a new Virtua Fighter game even though this is also pretty unlikely.

Evo 2024 is set to be one of the highlights of the year and we cannot wait for all the action to begin.
