Former Evo winner, Bonchan, got a critical win at the just concluded Brussels Challenge to seal his place at the upcoming summer Esports World Cup after a win over Go1 in Grand Final.
Bonchan was one of the favorites due to his status in the game, but this did not mean it was an easy path, especially considering this was his first major win in Street Fighter 6. Brussels Challenge ran an FT3 system, which is great, but also more gruelling. Bonchan had to run past imstilldadaddy, Valmaster, ZJZ, Gamein99, and Go1 to get his win. He also suffered a defeat in the Winners' final, which meant he had to endure a losers' final against low-tier hero, Kayne, before getting his revenge against Go1.
The win also represents a first for Bonchan in SF6, which has been a little difficult. While he was still doing well in team tournaments, the same cannot be said for the individual tournaments, where he hasn't been as consistent.
With the win, Bonchan also got the sole spot for the EWC from the competition.
Detonation FocusMe's Go1 must have felt a little hurt, seeing as he came in second place at both Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves and also Street Fighter 6. While he has qualified for the EWC for the former, he'll need to go for another tournament to try to qualify for the latter. There might be a chance at Combo Breaker which comes up later this month.
The most exciting story from the event was France's Kayne who used Jamie to terrorize everyone all the way to 3rd spot. Jamie, a character that isn't considered tournament viable, was doing the work in the capable hands of Kayne who was dominant in wins over Takamura, Kusanagi, and G8S's Sahara before finally pushing Bonchan to the limits, but ultimately lost 2-3.
