According to Jason Schreier's reporting for Bloomberg News, the Swedish gaming giant Embracer Group has gone ahead and canceled the Deus Ex sequel that had been in the works over the past two years. The report also notes that the company is looking to lay off part of its staff in the Eidos Montreal offices. One of the dozen developers under the group. In some ways, the move had been coming, as June last year the conglomerate announced it would be restructuring.
Embracer Group has yet to release a public press release detailing the staff affected and confirming which projects have been affected as a result.
This follows the recent worrying trend in gaming and tech. With Microsoft recently letting go of 1900 staffers, alongside TikTok, Twitch, and Discord, the list unfortunately goes on.
