Cygames Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Granblue Fantasy Versus Art
Not like "vs. Art," but as in "the art of Granblue Fantasy Versus."

In May of this year, Japanese game company Cygames celebrated its 15th anniversary, and they chose a somewhat unusual but fun way of celebrating it.

Since May, they have been publishing new editions of Cygames Magazine that focus on art of different games they've released so far, and with the latest issue, the focus is entirely on Granblue Fantasy Versus.

It starts off with a bit of a preamble that you might expect. How they wanted a new game in the Granblue setting, and how it should be faithful to the 2D look of the original and welcoming to newcomers.

The more interesting info is later on, where they start diving into behind the scenes production. For example, they explain that to nail down the visuals for the characters facial expressions, they would take initial rough animations, and then paint over it with something that would resemble the intended final result.

In general, they've put quite a lot of effort into how things look, down to recreating the 2D animation process and going frame by frame, setting up things that may not look right in 3D, but feel perfect from the camera's perspective.

If you want to see some of the special materials that they've included, make sure to check out the official website.
