Combo Breaker 2022 is finished, and we witnessed a glorious return of the offline fighting games! In what feels like a revival year for platform fighters that bring together exciting IPs on iconic stages, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl still features a strong community that showed up at Combo Breaker 2022.
This tournament is pretty important for the game. NASB should prove itself as a well-established esports title, so the players would feel secure investing their time and energy in it.
The fighting style is decently unique as the general tempo is much faster, and the situations are somewhat more spontaneous than in the whole sub-genre. Still, the developers should obviously continue their work. We all are waiting for cross-play, alright. But the current meta is far from being perfect. At Combo Breaker 2022, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl looked like the game of April and Zim. However exciting the other characters are, none of them can compete with the damage and combos of those two. The moments when April pushes a relatively healthy opponent into the abyss and then safely returns to the platform — they are frustrating. And when Zim destroys an opponent in just a couple of touches — this also doesn’t feel right.
There were other characters in Top 8: Lucy, Patrick, and Garfield by Tessy; Spongebob by Kaktus Guy; Michelangelo by Androoovii. And still, Zim and April felt overpowered in these matchups. Top 4 are all Zims and Aprils.
Of course, this doesn’t make the achievement of every player less impressive. The competition was super tough! Seggo had a very good run. And even after losing the first Grand Final match, the guy returned in full power and demonstrated great mastery in this new game.

Released over half a decade ago, BlazBlue Centralfiction continues to be an excellent title from the fine developers at ArcSystems, with over 250 players in the CB2022 bracket.
Such long-running games have one unique feature — their active player base becomes smaller, but the skills of those who remain crystalize and evolve to a mind-blowing level. This tournament was a good example of this phenomenon.
Every match in Top 8 was remarkable! Monarch had a pretty good plan written down to that notebook, as he won most of the matches. DLZ managed to reset the Grand Final, but still, the tournament victory slipped away from him. Those rounds with one-pixel health and miraculous comebacks — they are just wow!
