  • 3. Lord Venom
  • 4. Myrken

Capcom Pro Tour 2023 Europe North/East Top 8 Recap

Phenom was the favourite to win this tournament going into proceedings but it was not in any way easy. First, he had to defeat Lord Venom. The Polish JP player has been something of a revelation in this game, doing really well in the Saltmine League and also making some waves in the World Warrior events. He also pushed Phenom to the very edge in what was a very close match. It went down to the last round of the last game with Phenom down to a pixel, but he was able to find a way to get the win and move on to winners' final.

The second match was also a very close one between Juicyjoe and Myrken. Juicyjoe is another player who has gained some infamy in Street Fighter 6. He won 3rd place at VSFighting and has also recorded great results in the World Warrior events taking second place in the last two editions, losing both times to Phenom.

Myrken on the other hand, is also an impressive player, but he seems to have been around longer as he was in Capcom Cup last time around. The two faced off and it was also really close. But, Juicyjoe was the one who was victorious and sent Myrken to losers'.

Veggey, who was also in Capcom Cup last time around and is also one of the most well-known faces in the FGC, was in losers', but faced Popibluebeast who was able to send him out of the tournament. The final match was a really fun one between Herkuleshulk and Banja. This was a Blanka vs E. Honda match which is not one you get to see a lot. Banja, using Blanka was the winner in that set but lost to Myrken when the two played.

Phenom could not escape JP as his winners' final match was against Juicyjoe, another JP. The record between the two was overwhelmingly in favour of Phenom, but Juicyjoe did not care and defeated the Norwagian moose, sending him to losers' final.

To meet Phenom for a rematch, Lord Venom needed to defeat Popi, and Myrken to make losers' final. The match against Myrken was particularly hard and but for an unfortunately dropped combo, Myrken would have moved on.

Lord Venom's actions following his defeat to Phenom were.... weird.

First, he sent a message in the chat saying 'I hope Phenom beats me.' Then he picked A.K.I. which was weird. While she is a character that he is learning, it was perhaps a little unsettling to pick the character in a competitive environment. He  then went on to lose 3-0 and then he sent a message saying 'Phenom deserves it.'

This gave Phenom another JP to deal with, but this time he was a lot more ready. He won the first set to force a bracket reset and in the second set he pressured Juicyjoe who grew impatient and predictable. This gave Phenom the upper hand and he took the set and a place at Capcom Cup.

Juicyjoe's loss might simply be a case of inexperience against a player like Phenom and on a stage as big as this. But, he still has a chance in the World Warrior events which are nearing their close.

When asked about how he plays against JP, Phenom said that he feels that playing against JP is more about the player matchup rather than a character matchup. This is because every JP player is different and he can be effective from any point on the screen.

He also mentioned going to France for the next offline CPT event.

The next chance to qualify for Capcom Cup will be in Paris between the 3rd and 5th of Novmber 2023.
