Capcom Cup 11: Kakeru Qualifies Via World Warrior Japan #5
One of Japan's hottest players will make his Capcom Cup debut this year

The last World Warrior for Japan was held yesterday and from it emerged a qualifier for Capcom Cup 11. Kakeru, the winner of Gamers8 in 2023 and a top Japanese player was the one who qualified despite losing in Grand Final against the winner, Momochi who used Ed to great effect.

Kakeru showed great consistency with three strong placements including a win and two second-place finishes to finish the season with 130 points. According to Capcom's rules, the three strongest finishes will be taken into account when considering who qualifies for Capcom Cup. With Kakeru's win, he was the highest finisher ahead of Higuchi, who was next, and Momochi, who won the final World Warrior.

Interestingly, Kakeru who came to prominence in Street Fighter 6 with JP, dropped the character after he was nerfed and started using Akuma and then some Bison and did not return to JP even after the character received some  bufffs. However, for this tournament, he returned to his first character and did amazing defeating Go1 twice to book his place in Capcom Cup.

This sets up a pulsating regional final with the following players:

  • Higuchi
  • Orarin
  • Momochi
  • Fuudo
  • Hikaru
  • Kawano
  • Go1
  • Moke

The tournament will take place on the 12th of January 2025.

There are currently four Japanese players qualified for Capcom Cup with Kakeru joining Itabashi Zangief, Shuto, and Tokido.
