As is a time-honored tradition, Scorpion is yet again a fantastic pickup in Mortal Kombat 1. Although not seen as the best all-around character, there undeniably is a spark of greatness within him. To bring that spark out and fan the flames of the iconic ninja, we brought on board Canadian top player AVirk13.

Scorpion's Gameplay Basics

Specials

• DB3: not as good as in MK 11, can still be canceled. Works a lot better in the air.
• BF1: Spear, good for combos.
• BF4: Good at a distance, the amplified version makes it unblockable.

Pokes

• D1: Still good, but it can be punished.
• D3: Better than D1 on account of its range.

Strings

• 2,1,4: The best string Scorpion has, really good for whiff punishes and can be special canceled.

Buttons

• S1: Good for to punish and stagger.
• F3: Scorpion's only mid.
• B3: Great reach, but very unsafe unless at max distance.

Offense & Pressure

You don't have a lot of low or overhead options, so you are going to rely mostly on whiff punish, staggers, throws, and the few lows you have. You want to use Standing 1 to condition your opponents. Since it's a high they will be tempted to duck and go for a Down 1 poke, which you can back dash right after S1 and then punish the whiff with the 2,1,4 string or even forward dash for a throw.
