The character comes alongside the console launch.
After a roughly 3 month break following the release of Teemo and Warwick, 2XKO is ready to once again expands it roster, taking it to a whopping 12 characters.
Almost back to back, they first released a gameplay trailer for Caitlyn and then a more detailed move list video that aims to explain how the character will actually work.
As pretty much everyone expected, Caitlyn in 2XKO is built around her kit in League of Legends, which fits a fighting game format surprisingly well. Ultimately, it's all about zoning, which stems from combining two key elements – the gun and traps.
If you wanted a simple yet versatile zoner on your duo, she's going to be a great pick. You could also just combine her with Teemo and run an experiment where you find out how much zoning people are willing to endure, before they decide that there's more to life than trying to get in and tell you how they feel.
Instead of another developer deep dive, it seems that they are only doing a simple movelist rundown this time. However, much of Caitlyn's identity revolves around a few of her special moves.
Most notable among them is the S1 rifle shot. Pressing it will have Caitlyn shoot her gun, and holding it will charge it up while also granting some room to adjust the shot's angle. This special is a lot more complex than it may seem, thanks to the amount of follow-up options you have. Tapping S1 again will lead to a second shot, which can also be charged. S2 will throw out a bola, and f.S1 will have Caitlyn fire another shot while moving forward. Almost all of these options also exist when doing the air version of the move. Doing d.S1 is more focused on anti-airs, with charged shot leading to greater reward.
The left and right S1 serve as some of her extra movement option. A somewhat generous advancing roll and a short backroll that can also lead into her gun based attacks with their respective follow-ups.
The S2 specials are instead trap focused. Pressing S2 will throw out the bola, which can lead into combos if opponents get caught, with a longer stun on airborne enemies. She can also shoot bola backwards while in the air to get a big horizontal boost. Down S2 throws out a trap, which travels further if charged. This can also be done in the air, which she can follow up with a trickshot to redirect the bullet towards the opponent. Most interestingly, she also has a move similar to Akuma's Demon Flip, where she jumps up in the air and then has several options: divekick, bola boost, or trap throw that can also be followed by a trickshot.
When it comes to super, one of them is just an even stronger version of a charge shot, but the second one gives you a shield that goes forward. It will deal damage if it collides with enemies, and can power up 3 shots if Caitlyn shoots through it. Combo beasts will have a great time with this one, especially Urien fans.
Her assists are a lot more straightforward and only offer horizontal shot, anti-air shot, and a long range richochet that bounces up and down across the screen.
It's hard to say where she will end up placing on the tier lists, but it's hard to imagine a character this simple and versatile ever being bad.
