Riot seems set on providing proper support for their debut fighting game.
The somewhat quiet period after the game's launch has led to a lot of concerns about the future of 2XKO. Will people play it? Will Riot support it? Will this game actually last or deflate over time like many other fighting games?
The latest update from Riot should set aside some of these concerns.
For starters, the game is finally coming to current gen consoles, namely PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, so Switch 2 is left out of this, at least for now.
The bulk of this update is more concerned with the esports side of things. Instead of doing their own esports Leagues, a format that Riot used for League of Legends and Valorant, they will be following an example set by the other big players in the genre, with a competitive series similar in spirit to Tekken World Tour and Capcom Pro Tour.
This means that Riot will be working together with tournament organizers, providing direct monetary support, official promotion, and prize pool bonuses. This is getting kicked off with their 2026 Competitive Series, which will include 20 events – 5 majors and 15 challenger events. This will be separated into 5 in-game seasons, so for each of 5 majors there will also be 3 challenger events.
This will kick off early next year with their first major at Frosty Faustings XVIII in January, followed by Genesis, Texas Showdown, and Viennality in later months. For the major, there will also be a return for the Duo incentive, where whichever Duo places highest receiving a sizable bonus.
Additionally, they will be releasing "Frame Perfect" skin set. Part of the profits from these skin sales will go towards funding prizes and covering tournament costs for TOs worldwide. The support doesn't stop here, however, so they want to keep expanding to support local scenes and help to organically grow the competitive community.
And hey, if you've been waiting for a new character, tune in to The Game Awards.
