Biography
Story
Hokutomaru is a young ninja and the pupil of Andy Bogard and Mai Shiranui. He debuted in Garou: Mark of the Wolves as the youngest fighter in the game, trained in the mountains under Andy while also learning Shiranui-style ninjutsu from the clan. His personality matched that background: loud, wild, impulsive, and more comfortable around mountain monkeys than city people.
After the previous tournament, Hokutomaru left the mountains and moved to South Town with Terry’s help. Living in the city gave him a new problem: figuring out how to use his skills to actually help people instead of just proving how strong he is. In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the new King of Fighters tournament gives him a chance to test how much he has grown.
Hokutomaru is still energetic and childish at times, but City of the Wolves presents him as more mature than before. He is no longer just Andy’s noisy student; he is trying to become a proper protector in his own right. Still a kid ninja, though, so the chaos budget remains healthy.
Appearance
Hokutomaru is a short Japanese teenager with spiky black hair and a lean build. In City of the Wolves, he wears a blue ninja-style top, white cropped pants, a red scarf, gloves, shin guards, and red-accented footwear. His design keeps the Shiranui ninja identity but makes him look older and more street-ready than his Garou appearance.
He also carries ninja tools, including shuriken and kunai, matching his fast, evasive fighting style.
Gameplay
Hokutomaru is a mobile trickster who uses speed, shuriken, double jumps, air stalls, teleports, and awkward movement to frustrate opponents. He has the most mobility options in City of the Wolves, letting him switch between hit-and-run offense, defensive zoning, and sudden air approaches.
His biggest strength is how hard he is to pin down. Hokutomaru can attack from odd angles, bait anti-airs, protect a life lead, and annoy opponents into overextending. His weakness is defense once he gets caught. He has no meterless invincible reversal, poor guard cancel options, and needs real control of his movement to avoid being blown up.
