Biography
Story
Blue Mary, real name Mary Rian, is a South Town special agent and private detective who first appeared in Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory. Her family background is heavily connected to martial arts and law enforcement, and her grandfather Tatsumi Suo was a respected jujutsu master. Her past also connects her directly to Geese Howard, whose criminal rise left deep scars on South Town and Mary’s family.
Mary became a freelancer after losing her father and former lover Butch during a presidential protection mission. Her codename, Blue Mary, comes from Butch’s favorite cocktail, and her leather jacket remains one of the most important keepsakes from him. That loss gives her character more weight than the usual “cool detective” setup. She has the jacket, the bike, the grapples, and enough trauma to fill a South Town case file.
In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Blue Mary takes time away from her dangerous work until Geese’s legacy and the Sacred Scrolls pull her back into action. She enters the new conflict as a South Town special agent, ready to investigate the case with her Commando Sambo style and very little patience for anyone who gets in her way.
Appearance
Blue Mary is an athletic American woman with short blonde hair and blue eyes. In City of the Wolves, she wears a cropped white top, blue jeans, brown boots, fingerless gloves, and a green jacket with a fur collar. Her red utility belt and leather-jacket look keep her close to her classic Fatal Fury identity while giving her a more modern South Town design.
Gameplay
Blue Mary is a highly aggressive mobile grappler who wants to get close and force the opponent into constant guessing games. Her kit includes command dashes, command grabs, strong confirms, plus frames, an overhead, Real Counter, and several ways to slip through neutral before starting her pressure.
Her biggest strength is close-range offense. Once Mary gets in, she can loop pressure, threaten strike-throw mix, punish jumps with scary anti-air options, and convert clean hits into hard knockdowns. Her weakness is mid-range control, since her longer pokes are limited and she has no real meterless reversal.
