Its been a very long time since we've seen the once abundant spin-offs games, so where is our next Shaolin Monks?
Here at DashFight, we love Fighting Games, which also includes some of the spinoffs of these series, games that broke away from their franchise core mechanics and tried something new within the same universe. Yet it has been so long since the last wave of spinoffs that we can't help but ask, what would a new Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks look like? could it exist in the first place?
Released in the mid-2000s, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks was an unexpected deviation from the typical Mortal Kombat formula. Instead of the classic one-on-one fighting, it took the series in a new direction, presenting players with a cooperative action-adventure beat 'em up that breathed fresh life into the franchise. What made Shaolin Monks a great game can be attributed to several key factors, including its unwavering authenticity, captivating storytelling, fluid gameplay, and a whole krypt of secrets and unlockables.
The authenticity of Shaolin Monks was a standout feature. It faithfully recreated the iconic Mortal Kombat universe. Players got to traverse well-known stages like the Living Forest, the Pit, and even the Netherrealm, encountering familiar foes and new adversaries. Every character felt true to their Mortal Kombat roots, from their special moves to their personalities. This level of detail immersed players in the world they had grown to love over the years. The game didn't just cash in on the Mortal Kombat brand; it celebrated it, providing an authentic experience in a different package that fans had longed for.
