While many eagerly await more news about Virtua Fighter Crossroads, the latest iteration of Virtua Fighter 5 continues to get a series of rare but nuanced updates.

According to Seiji Aoki, a new update is on the way, but there's not much he can reveal about it until next month's producer letter.

Instead this letter is about fun behind the scenes moments on the production of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown.

Both of the stories revolve around stages. The first one is about the 無 (mu) character on Akira's stage. By itself it means "nothingness," but in this case it was suggested by Aoki as a sort of reference to the game being free through PS Plus subscription, since 無 kanji is used in 無料 (muryo) which means "free."

The second one is also about Japanese word play. On the Taka-Arashi stage, there are banners that in real life usually have the names of various wrestlers. Aoki once again had a suggestion to essentially add some funny play on developer names as a placeholder, but it ended up working out so well that they kept it. If you know Japanese, you can probably spot the jokes by comparing banners to the credits.

Aside from that, he congratulates the winners of recent Virtua Fighter tournaments, and looks forward to more competition at the upcoming CEO 2026.
